Long Read Alert

Hello friends and welcome to a slightly different edition of Eat Your Vegetables.

Part of what I set out to do when I started this blog was to challenge myself and develop my writing. I'd always been a dedicated English nerd at school, but I've had fewer reasons to write since I started working in kitchens full time.

I recently had the opportunity to write a piece for HomerOnline, a wonderful website that explores and discusses masculinity in it's many forms. I've written about my time as a young chef working in predominantly male kitchens (hence the vintage cover photo of me as a baby chef, ya welcome).
It's a very different piece to what you've seen on the blog previously, although I've maintained my strong pro-profanity stance (my apologies to my parents).

This essay was personally pretty challenging to write: the subject matter is not super fun and it required some hard self-reflection. But I'm really proud of the piece and I hope it is of some interest to y'all.
You can find the article by clicking on these words here or by going to homeronline.com
You can also follow Homer on Facebook and Twitter. I definitely recommend checking out their stuff, there's a whole bunch of wonderful, well-written, and thought provoking pieces for you to read.

For those of you who came here for the FOOD: don't worry! I've got some more travel stories, restaurant reviews and recipes in the pipeline so stay tuned (and follow me!).

Talk soon, friends.
